WELCOME TO TRINITY HOMES

Trinity Homes is a Christian charity providing accommodation to both single and married couples over the age of 57.

Welcome to Trinity Homes

Trinity Homes Almshouses in Acre Lane, Brixton, are provided for the benefit of needy men and women over the age of 57 who are members of a Christian denomination. They may also be provided to married couples.

Trinity Homes is situated in the heart of Brixton, opposite the Town Hall. Residents have easy access to all the amenities of the area, including underground and overground train services, bus services, library, cinema, shops and a daily street market. There is a warden who lives on the premises and supervises the day to day welfare of the residents.

There are 18 flats and cottages in the complex, all of which are fully self contained. The flats have a sitting room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen all on one floor; the cottages have the same accommodation but are situated on two floors. Every resident has their own front door. There is a guest room for the use of residents wishing to have friends or relatives to stay. A small charge is made to the resident for this facility. When a resident leaves the homes, the vacant flat or cottage is redecorated and recarpeted for the incoming resident.

Residents do not have the status of tenants but are licensed by the trustees and pay a monthly maintenance contribution rather than a rental. Most of the residents are entitled to housing benefit and so have their maintenance contribution paid by Lambeth Council. The maintenance contributions are well below council rents for equivalent accommodation and so the flats are always in demand. Prospective residents wishing to apply to the homes go on a waiting list and are required to complete an application form describing their financial status and personal details.

The buildings, the construction of which started in 1824 on the wishes of their founder, Thomas Bayley, are Grade II listed and comprise three blocks surrounding a pleasant garden. A separate building which comprises a community room, laundry area and toilet facilities for the use of all residents, is situated in the garden of the homes.
